A federal grand jury has indicted a former seasonal employee of the IRS who used her position to commit computer law fraud when she gave First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credits credits to friends and family in exchange for payments. She did this for four different people in exchange for payments of $2000 each. None of these people had actually purchased a home and so they did not qualify for the credits.

The computer fraud charges each carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison and fines up to $250000. The case is still under investigation and the defendant has been released on bond. Treasury officials want to send a strong message with this case that abuse of a federal position is abuse of the public trust, and there are serious consequences to be had.
